Chapter 7 - Guiding Light
Victor Robson, Heather's father, was a talented self-taught musician and composer. In 1945 Victor had lost all sight in one eye and the other was deteriorating fast. An operation to improve his sight was not successful, leaving him completely blind. However Victor was determined to be independent and Heather guided him around the streets of their home town, Sunderland, so that he could memorise all the routes. Heather's rug shows her and Victor roaming the streets at night as the moon peeps from beind the clouds. Light from the gas-lamp illuminates the street and the windows glow with light from inside. Heather, dressed in bright pink, holds her father's hand as Victor tries hard to commit the trip to memory. The moonlight and gas light reflect off the hard cobbled street as father and daughter walk home together.
